Beer is the most widely consumed alcoholic beverage in the world, with a history that stretches back thousands of years. From ancient Mesopotamia to today’s booming craft beer movement, beer has always been more than a drink—it is culture, tradition, and a key element of hospitality. For professionals in restaurants, bars, and hotels, understanding beer is essential not only to provide excellent service but also to create memorable guest experiences. This course, developed by SIPS Hospitality Academy, offers a complete introduction to the world of beer, designed for learners of all levels. It combines essential theory with practical training that can be directly applied in the hospitality industry. Students begin with the foundations of beer, exploring its history, cultural significance, and the four key ingredients—water, malt, hops, and yeast. They will learn how each ingredient shapes flavor, aroma, and body, and gain a step-by-step understanding of the brewing process, from mashing and fermentation to maturation and bottling. The second part of the course focuses on practical application in service. Students explore the two main beer families—Ales and Lagers—and study popular styles such as IPA, Stout, Porter, and Pilsner. They practice proper pouring techniques, foam control, serving at the correct temperature, and selecting the right glassware. Food pairing is introduced as a valuable skill, teaching how to match beer styles with different dishes to enhance both taste and guest satisfaction. The final module takes a business perspective, equipping students with tools to manage beer effectively in a professional setting. Topics include storage, keg rotation, cellar management, and troubleshooting quality issues. Students also learn how to design an engaging beer menu with clear descriptions and pairing suggestions, and how to use storytelling and brand knowledge to market beer offerings and increase sales. The final assessment is designed as a learning too
